Painting is a practice that embodies my attempt to communicate with others through a visual language. I explore the practices of painting and photography as personal records. I paint from amateur photographs that objectively document everyday events that I have no connection to. My anonymous relationship with the images of others via the web embodies the promise of the Internet: sharing digital information can bridge the physical and emotional gaps between us in reality. As I manipulate these pictures of others’ lives, I vicariously explore issues taking place within my own, strengthening this empathetic bond. The physical characteristics of paint are the responses that take place during the transformation of a photograph into a painting.
