James Cormier
Birmingham, Alabama (USA)
I am a multidisciplinary artist with a diverse professional background. I have taught college level courses in printmaking, drawing and sculpture, as well as art in elementary school education. I have extensive experience in theatrical production, having served as the Master Scenic Artist for the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Town and Gown Theatre and as Master Carpenter for Tulane’s Summer Lyric Theatre.

Drawn equally to art and science, I have a MFA in sculpture from Tulane University and a MS in Medical Illustration from the Medical College of Georgia. For 7 years I built and designed science exhibits for the McWane Science Center in Birmingham, AL. Currently I do freelance graphic design and illustration, and I teach both art and science at Spring Valley School, also in Birmingham.

As an artist, I have always been drawn to the human figure. The body is the most basic way we define ourselves as individuals and as a species. I have sought to understand it and our nature through intensive study of the body’s exterior and interior forms. It is a gorgeous labyrinth of functions and structures that never ceases to amaze me. Through my depictions of the body and its parts, I try to understand what we are and what it means to be human.

Promoting the Arts are very important to us. However, we are always in need for sponsors and donation to make our events possible.
