Warning: Too often than not, there is a separation from the artist and her or his piece of work. My work is a relationship between me and my paint. A relationship that can not be fully comprehended by seeing my art; I feel that the connection with one's material is more important than the actual result. And this is where art historians and critics need to realize they limit a piece of work by not acknowledging this relationship. I feel the Western Art Canon gives no real acknowledgement given to the artist. Art history always talks about the artist and the piece; this is true and should be. But, once the piece is seen, has recognition, it no longer has that connection to the artist. We speak about the artist but never relate to her or his work.
There becomes a split away from the artist that promotes the misunderstanding of the work. Viewing the piece is twice removed from the actual piece; criticism is thrice removed, etc. Art history is a
double edged sword: historical credibility versus oppression of the artist.
Promoting the Arts are very important to us. However, we are always in need for sponsors and donation to make our events possible.
